Game Schooler Recommendation

It’s no surprise that jurists nominated Luxor for the Spiel des Jahres in 2018. This game offers variability for repeat plays and streamlined gameplay that adds interest without adding complexity. In Luxor, players move their adventurers through a temple in search of the pharaoh’s tomb. Along the way, they collect artifacts and treasure. Players play cards to move their adventurers, but they cannot re-arrange those cards. You are only allowed to play the card in the rightmost or leftmost position in your hand. As you replenish your hand, you place each newly acquired card in the middle. This fun restriction keeps a player’s options limited while maintaining elements of strategy. Most importantly, it’s fun!

Game Overview

On the hunt for priceless treasures, groups of adventurers explore the legendary temple at Luxor. Their ultimate goal is the tomb of the pharaoh, but many treasures can be collected as they search. As they explore, the challenge unfolds: The player who manages to quickly get their team of adventurers to the tomb, while salvaging as many treasures as possible, will be the winner. Luxor offers variable game play as the path that leads to the tomb is different for every game — and will even change during play!
